Re: c5 or c3???

As everyone else alludes to - C5/C6 for daily use and longer journeys - a C4 too if its been well looked after and kept in the dry to minimise any electrical bugs.
C3 for shorter 'more meaningful' journeys. They can be hard and hot work, especially if a big block car. Heavy traffic in the height of summer even with rear window and T tops removed is 'challenging'. Gas Mark 5 is the best way to describe. It can be difficult for a bystander to even see the car in focus properly (given the mirage like heat haze surrounding the car) and then when finally under way the heat coming back from from the engine compartment makes your eyes water. Exhilarating - most definitely - but on steriods Yes

Re: c5 or c3???

I agree with mostly everything posted in this thread so far but would like to add this:

I.M.H.O.

A C3 isn't really for driving, 80% of the pleasure of C3 ownership is about the look of the car and peoples reaction to it. I forgive all the downsides of the C3 every time I look at it, whatever angle you view a C3 from it is absolutely gorgeous.

The C3 is actually a mobile work of art!

A big block C2 or C3 is a 'visceral' experience - so much torque, no traction control, no ABS etc - just a limited slip diff..................... Yes Doh

tbh ive owned over the years 2 c4s/1 c3 and a c6 but been vetteless for a while now so hoping to get back into the vette scene again.
with the c5s ive heard they suffer from certain problems which are costly to fix ix this the earlier models --what year did this get rectified???
Must admit a c5 would suit my needs more but theres only certain colours in my mind that suit it.
And it would have to be a targa top for me or if a really nice convertible came along id might consider it.
rather fancy the hud display
cheers

Not sure what "expensive" problems you mean?

The only expensive issue I know of is if the ABS control module goes. Another case for getting a post- 2001 version as you can still get them new and they are repairable to a minor degree.

By "targa top" you mean the standard coupe. Rather than a Z51 or Z06 hardtop.

Oh and if you are going to be fussy about colours then bare in mind good C5s tend to be "keepers" so good ones don't come up for sale that often.

its a Japanese import

For that price it needs to be perfect.
