Headlamps

The headlights oin my 1977 C3 seem to have removable bezels rings and glasses.
Am I right or would they be sealed beams?
What should I replace the old bulbs with? Nothing too powerful I suppose.
Alternatively, could they be replaced with sealed beams?

Is aligning the beams simply a matter undoing the big retaining nut, adjusting then tightening it again?

Re: Headlamps

You can simple replace C2/C3 headlamps with sealed beams (as per new) - the smart thinking is to buy new reflectors and plug-in bulbs. For generally less than 120 people will use Halogen bulbs for the improved light output - the 'really' smart thinking is to use 'upgrade' Xenon' bulbs - EU legal - 50% brighter (than Halogen) - same or very similar current consumption to the original manufacturer fitment bulbs (double check this) You'll then have lighting that is at least equal for most current production cars (and probably superior to quite a few) Yes

Re: Headlamps

I have to say, I'd be surprised if you have removable "glasses" Even in a unit that accepts bulbs I think the glass should be fixed to the reflector?

The chrome bezels are what holds the lamp units (sealed beam or bulbs) in place, three screws I think. As Ross says, you can buy new sealed beam units.

Or, try these people for units and bulbs: http://www.classic-car-accessories.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000397.pl...

A great company to deal with. I stayed with the halogen bulbs in ours. I replaced only the main/dip units but the improvement was huge! Dip beam is soooo much better and the main beam (when all 4 are lit) is fab! Although oncoming cars 3/4 mile away are not so impressed! Very Happy

There are two adjusting screws per lamp unit, one at the top and one at the side. Just screw them in or out to alter the angle, as there is a spring behind each to let the unit "follow" the screw in and out.
