C3 headlamp actuators

So I'm replacing the headlamp vacuum system pretty much in full. All the hoses, filters, actuators, relays etc etc.

My question is... On my '78 the headlamp actuators themselves have a feed which points outwards meaning the rubber hose has to double back on itself to the relay valve. Is there any reason I can't swap these round so the feed points inwards meaning a smaller and easier routed rubber hose?

Thanks.

Re: C3 headlamp actuators

I had to nip down and have a look at mine to see how they went - alas, not easy as I can't raise the hood fully in the garage! (a basement garage here)

But, from what I could see, I'm wondering if they'd fit "back to front", or whether there wouldn't be issues with the other vac line output tube etc?

Mine are like yours, the actuator pipes turn outwards and the hoses then do a 180 on themselves and run back to the centre of the car. I'm inclined to think there must be a reason for that as Chevy had had a few years to sort that out by '78 Very Happy

Re: C3 headlamp actuators

Thanks for the reply.

I've trial fitted one that has the feed pointing in rather than out and everything so far fits fine. My worry is that the bonnet is still removed as I've also done the radiator support panel (a nightmare!), so maybe they're not fitted that way in case the bonnet catches. Hoping to get an answer on here but it's not a big deal to swap them to the way they were - just doesn't make sense to have extra hose length with a bend in it.
