Hello,

My C6 is finally in a container in Houston and I am tracking the ship it will eventually be on (currently off the Florida coast steaming west) and should arrive in Southampton in mid April. It's a base, 2007 model, therefore will just need to pass the MOT. I have bought a Tech2 clone and a few other bits listed below and hope to be able to make the conversion myself, BUT I'm not an electronics expert especially when it comes to canbus. I'm trying to do as much as I can firstly out of pride, secondly I will know how it is done should I later experience a problem and thirdly to save money for other parts.
Is there anyone here who I could call upon if I get stuck, happy to pay of course?

My plan is:

Use the Tech2 to convert the BCM to Japanese or Middle Eastern region to avoid the steering lock sensor issue.
Adjust standard headlight beam to suit.
I have bought the Euro rear light loom.
The rear fog lights should be taken care of with the Radio Flyer kit here: https://shop.radioflyerinnovations.com/C6-Euro-Rear-fog-ligh...
Switchback harness and bulbs bought to take care of the DRL, although this may have been wasted if the region swap disables the running lights anyway? https://shop.radioflyerinnovations.com/White-DRL-Switchback-...
Splice wires into the indicators to turn the current side running lights into indicators, using amber LEDs.
Leave the US light clusters alone and change one pair to bright, amber LEDs for the indicators, shining through the red lenses.

That's as far as I've got. Thoughts?
I'm aware that this wouldn't pass an IVA/SVA but believe if I could get it working it will likely pass the average MOT, be safe and be unlikely to cause an issue with the police?

Hi Dave,

The best guy I know that is Phil James, he is based in Reading but I do know that he is mobile .

He is really knowledgeable on American electrics and has done SVA conversions etc.

Iíve got a Tech2 on its way over as we speak to try and sort my truck out, hopefully itís quite self explanatory, the guy told me he sells mainly to DIYers, he was a ex GM technican.🤞🤞🤞🤞

Where abouts in the UK are you?

I'll give you the story of our car so hopefully you can avoid some of the issues.

We bought it last year as an imported car that had to go through the IVA process so had been fitted with euro rear lights.

This I believe was done by one of the conversion specialists, I'd love to know which one as the work done was to an incredibly poor standard.

On our car the us spec rear loom was adapted to match the euro rear lights, the problem is the euro lights use different bulb holders to the us spec lights, cue bodge 1. The wiring plugs were cut off, the wires stuffed in to the bulb holder sockets and "potted" with silicone sealant. There are also wires all over the place behind the bumper to cater for the euro spec lights. The best bodge however was the front lights which need to be converted to halogens for the test. The conversion was done but then left in instead of reinstated to xenon's as is usual, this left a large hole in the bottom of the headlight units for dust and dirt to enter the headlight units as the ballast seals that hole.

So anyway. Where we are going with our car is I've bought an unmolested us loom and some us rear lights which look far better than the euro ones imo. I'm going to reinstate the us spec rear lights and loom then adapt the inside lights to cover the fog light provision (easy) then split the outer lights to build an led board I've already got to provide a central round indicator in a similar style to Ferraris but hidden behind the red lens. This will satisfy all the requirements for UK road legislation including indicator colour, placement and height, foglight placement, colour and also keep a factory reflector solution in place. The front lights I've obtained ballasts and bulbs and will just be returning to standard once I've found a way to clean the damn things out properly. I'm half tempted to just bang them together make sure it all works then order new lenses, split and clean and refit with new lenses available from the us.

Note that the regulations for IVA, where applicable, are much tighter than they are for MOT.

Put at the simplest, "bodge" will do for MOT but definitely won't do for IVA.

From my experience any IVA/MOT Corvette alterations are best done by someone with experience.

I had a C5 which had headlight bulbs hanging down in series with the rear indicators presumably to provide some sort of resistance. Noticed them one night when the ground at the rear of the car was being illuminated!!

Also saw a C7 at a Corvette specialist where the wiring had been so butchered in an attempt to alter the lighting, that they couldn't figure out what had been done and handed it back to the owner unconverted.

Thank you all, it has given me reassurance to continue on the path of doing as much of it myself as possible; too many problems with importers doing sub-standard work. I can take my time and make it neat, with decent connections shielded from the elements.

Oh it's an epic car. I've come from a history of nice cars and for the money nothing touches this.

We've added the glass roof and npp exhaust and it's really added to the special feel. The z51 package makes the car feel alive too.
