Another 'nail in the coffin' for UK based motorsport

Just when you thought it was gonna be OK...... with the continual demise of drag racing locations in the UK there was just recently a 'ray of hope' - 'back to the roots' No Prep 1/8th mile drag racing at Rockingham Speedway - looking forward to this.....and now we see this....

Having a lot of bhp is all very well, but on these forums it's torque that counts

It's apparently (according to the Telegraph) been bought by an investment company and is going to be used as a car storage facility, for vehicle defleet / storage / auction. They have obtained a change of use for that purpose.

The previous owners are in administration and owe millions. Seems they never made any money out of the venture.

That's a real shame. i only went there for one car event, but still, it was fun. Shame I never drove on the track (and won't be able to for this final event)

I remember attending the opening event in 2001!

Nigel Mansell drove an indy car around to set the fastest lap.

Red Arrows the whole nine yards.

Wouldn't want to buy a house there if they do rip it up and start again, it was the old Corby steel works before it was Rockingham so god alone knows what toxic crap is buried in the ground.[/img]

I remember the steel works! Never realised it was the same site.
