Visual differences US and Export models?


A fellow Club Member, who doesn't do forums has asked me if there are any easy ways to tell if a C7 Vette is an imported US model or a Euro model

I'm aware of the sat Nov issues, which can be overcome, but rs than guess, I thought it simply easier to ask here.

He said that he is a concerned about US imports and the issue of headlights that wouldn't necessarily be discovered until an MOT, so any guidance that can given about how to differentiate will be great

I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong Guy - but headlamps being HD dip centrally (not to left or right) and are therefore legal. Little things like headlamp washers, rear fog lights, side indicator repeaters and door mirrors differ.
Simplest thing to do if you know the reg no is to run it through DLVA website - taxation level will tell you if an 'official' import.

Things that occur to me,

* Bigger door mirrors on the Euro cars
* Headlamp washers on all the Euro cars
* US imports will almost certainly have an aftermarket switch for rear fog lamp

Be a little careful with an import from USA obvious things like no warranty but also they use a different system for the radio ie no DAB and the satnav will not work as Guy said. Have herd it can all be fixed but the amount of electronics that are used for onboard systems its a risk sending the units away i believe and the risk of them not intergreating right with all the other onstar and onboard computers. The vin number will also tell you the 5th digit in if its a 9 its for non US or Canada so europe uk far east ect Hope that helps a little!!

Hi,im MICK when i was 21 i owned a 1976 t top red white leather owned it 4 years at about 12,000 miles a year had some great fun.Move on 28 years and wife, house,kids,now i have a toy again a red c5 2002 reg C5 YNK,love it RED interior 40,000 miles ,hoping to have just as much fun again on 7,500 miles policy. Just sold my 2014 c7 after owning it for nearly 2 and half years again red red interior manual.Have now also got a C7 2018 blue auto both roofs black interior running her in loving it !!

A couple of additional comments re. US imports,

* All Euro cars are dry sump variants with a significant rear spoiler, larger brakes and full leather interior trim. There are very, very few base model US cars (wet sump) in Europe.

* Conversion from US to Euro electronics is 100% effective with full European mapping in the satnav etc.

* GM carry out safety related recall work on US imports without charge.

* Annual road tax is £200 cheaper than Euro cars.

All good info remember cars registered after April 2017 the tax changed and its £450 a year 4 the first 5 years then £140 a year after that worth bearing in mind. A Euro car carries a conformaty cert so when you come 2 sell it if you donot have that it cannot be sold 2 many Euro countries!!

Didn't have a problem with selling my 2003 Z06 to a guy in France.
I think the cert of conformity is a load of BS, both of my previous vettes are in France.
As are probably hundreds more.
If its passed SVA/IVA it will be almost euro conforming anyway.
Only headlights might need changing or adjusting.
