Replacement head unit for US spec C6

I currently have the standard issue stereo with US frequency tuning, therefore the radio reception is pretty feeble. I'd like to change it myself, but what are my options?

Can I slot in a UK head unit, is the wiring the same? If so does anyone have a used one?

Alternatively I'd opt for an Android compatible modern unit, is their a wiring and surround kit available to do this easily?

Thanks, David

hi Dave.....I fitted a UK spec Pioneer head unit to my C6.......you'll need an expensive wiring loom adapter ( if yours has the Bose option ) , a nice facia kit is available to keep that OEM look too. Got mine from Pulse car HiFi in Hadleigh Essex if thats any help

Hi Dave,

I put up a similar topic a while ago (http://corvetteclub.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=19509) that might answer some of your questions. I got my car back from Custom Exotics a few weeks back with the Kenwood DNX9180dabs installed and it's an awesome system, if at the pricier end. I don't know if a slightly different setup is required if yours is an American non-Bose system. For the interface, I got this back from the manufacturer:

If you do have ONstar, and you have Steering wheel controls, the part you need is the RP5-GM11
If you do NOT have Onstar, but you DO have steering wheel controls, the part you need is the RP4-GM11

If you do have ONstar, but you do NOT have steering wheel controls, the part you need is the OS-2X
If you do NOT have ONstar, and you do NOT have steering wheel controls, the part number you need is the RP3-GM11

For the facia kit, I ordered one off Amazon for 7 that's been great.

Hope that helps!

Thank you.

I've ordered the PAC RP3 and an Amazon fascia surround. I confess that I've gone cheap on the head unit and opted for a no name 150 ebay unit that offers all the features I am after. Will it be false economy....I will report back in a few weeks.

I also got mine fitted at custom exotics in my C5Z ... It's a pumpkin head unit from Amazon ..

I'm running sat nav app on it.. But it has DAB , phone connectivity, CD, DVD , reversing camera, iPod connection, USB , micro sd card etc all for 240 ... Had 3 years now with no issues at all... As good as any unit 2 or 3 times the price.. Have put a set of Corvette flags on as a wallpaper so looks OEM

Hi

As a new C6 Owner (and club member Wave ) I have been following this thread with interest, as my first job is to replace the head unit.

I have already ordered the fascia surround from Amazon, but want to make sure I get the correct wiring loom. My car is a 2008 euro spec with BOSE and steering wheel controls but without onstar.

Am I correct in thinking I need the RP4-GM11 from PAC as the correct interface / loom for a BOSE equipped car?

Many thanks

Matt

Sounds like the same setup as my car, so yes, all you should need is the RP4-GM11 - it's the one I fitted and Custom Exotics didn't need anything else.

Matt - to purchase the interface, you could contact AAMP Global (sales.eu@aampglobal.com) and provide them your post code - they'll then let you know anyone local that can provide you with the products. Or, there are a few places in surrey that do mail order:

- Cartronics GB Ltd, 22 High Road, Byfleet, KT14 7QG
- Car Sound and Security Ltd, 165 East Street, Epsom, KT17 1ES

Cheers

Pete
