Hi Jim

Just curious, what motor do you have in the Moggie, Rover V8 ?

Nosey Nick.

Jim, glad you seem to be virtually "there"! I had to look up the TCS and I discovered that almost any Corvette that had it originally has now had it disconnected, due to the issues it caused! Seems like you're on the right track!

You said you car came from Florida - was it sold new there do you know? I was able to get the factory invoice for my '78 from GM and found that it was sold new from a dealership in Fort Myers, (Bill Branch Chevrolet).

Nick;
Yes, 3.9 Rover V8 block from a low mileage Discovery, that was rolled by owner
- not me! For sale if you or anyone else you know interested in a Morris Hot Rod!

Kentvette - I got the original bill of sale with the car. Bought in Florida on 7/11/72 & delivered on 7/12/72. So 46 years on the road, in a few days !

Can't thank Norm enough for my early Corvette Christmas presents, to give me a wee boost in getting Kori sorted and ready for 2019.
Cheers again.

Re: Help with newly acquired 72 350 Auto

All the other goodies will be given good homes in the near future too !
Desperately waiting for my new 2" air cleaner, 10mm 5amp fuse and driver's door hinge spring, to hopefully "finish off" my current list of refurb/repairs and make her ready for road use.....so close, but weather and road conditions could scupper that plan.
Even if I just get her out of the garage and into the back lane for a wash, that would be ace. Banghead

Jim, Don't know if you ordered a hinge spring fitting tool with the spring, but it could well come in handy (You can bend a screwdriver, but it would be tricky to know where without seeing the tool!)

Do you have the old spring, or the two parts of it!? New springs are usually just a tiny bit bigger, and that makes fitting difficult. I had to shave a little off one end on mine to get it to slip over the hinge. This little video from Wilcox is worth looking at:

Re: Help with newly acquired 72 350 Auto

Cheers for tips & advice Stephen.
Yes, still have old hinge, which my mate tried to repair by welding it and then re-fitting with a broken ended ring spanner, that we ground to the right angle and seemed to work, just a pity the welded spring didn't. Had obviously lost it's spring-like (elasticity?) properties as a result of being welded and snapped again, under tension, so hopefully new one will fit, once size checked etc.
Watched a couple of videos on subject, one with hinge out of car and one with hinge still on car, so have the knowledge and as stated above, have even had a trial run, so all will hopefully go well.
Will update in due course.

Re: Help with newly acquired 72 350 Auto

Well I wouldn't be Jimmy the Jinx if everything went smoothly....
RHS headlight not going fully up, so as per videos, info on web etc, pretty sure vacuum leak at actuator, dust covers were perished & crumbling to touch, so ordered actuator rebuild kit (CK doing pretty well out of me since getting my C3!)
Strip down all went well till LHS clevis wouldn't come off, even with it soaked in penetrating oil. A bit of graft & RHS came off lovely, LHS snapped! Oh dear. Blow torch to rescue, heated it up, clevis and broken threaded end of actuator rod separated. Welder to rescue, actuator rod repaired, new seals fitted to both actuators, all refitted & headlights working great.
Dashlights now all working again, as 10mm 5amp fuse came in ordered fuse&flasher kit, so I just need to wait for 2inch air cleaner to arrive and I'm ready to go for a blast around the newly opened Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, that opened (well most of it) on Wednesday, if weather allows!I
Oh yes, driver's door hinge spring also arrived and needs fitting, but it certainly isn't a job preventing me from driving the car.
