Another day, another Mid-Engine Corvette thread

No idea if this is a genuine post on the Corvette Forum, but either way, it makes for an interesting read:

Rear/mid engine layout gives more credibility to rumours that rhd will be available too Yes

Perhaps GM have been looking at the numbers and success of RHD Mustang over here.

Well written minus the usual BS, how true? Who knows, we'll find out soon enough.
Thumbs up

I had to forward the link to someone who would be in the know, which he had already read (over 4,000 career Corvette sales), his statement about the story.........."pure crapola" Very Happy

Re: Another day, another Mid-Engine Corvette thread

HA! Thanks for the heads up on the thread Norm. I guess it reads well, but in reality, there is not a whole lot of new info there really. We pretty much know that the latest cars "spied' are the final version and that it'll be revealed at Detroit.

I have been saying for a long time that I suspected the delayed launch was down to an internal GM battle to see if Chevy or Cadillac got the new ME car. Since GM have "let go" the head of Caddy, it seemed it was "g" for it to be a Chevy. But, that would make sense re the Cadillac involvement, a sort of consolation prize!

A Manta Ray...? hmmm, I thought Chevy had a trade mark on Zora...?

Referring to DaytonaVette's other related thread, I'm with Barry... no interest really in a ME or MR engined Vette, but people have been banging on about one since Zora! Allegedly it'll make the race car easier to make quicker....

But If I'd been Chevy I'd have been sending the R&D on 4WD. I read a review of the Jag F Type recently and the thing that stood out for the testers was the 4WD that gave it such sure handling, easier to keep under control in 4WD without so many electric helpers.

All academic to me as I'll never be in a position to afford even a C6 probably, but I'll be losing interest in Corvette very quickly if it becomes a ME car only.....

Stephen, I agree with your analogy of the ME. My contact responded later about that article in saying....."that's the kind of crap that makes it so hard to get the salient points across to the future C8 buyer by having to constantly explain what the folks read.

My take, I will hold any substantive comments until I can touch it. Very Happy

Re: Another day, another Mid-Engine Corvette thread

Well, further news on the C8 - for anyone who hasn't read of teh latest fiasco, here's the piece from Autowee:

The midengine 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette will not be shown at the 2019 Detroit auto show next month, according to GM Authority, which is citing anonymous sources buried deep within Chevrolet due to electrical problems. This could delay the next American barn burner by six months.

GM Authority is saying the C8ís electrical system canít handle the load. This makes a little bit of sense if the next Corvette is a hybrid, which is a possibility. It also makes sense if the supercar is using a 48-volt primary electrical system.

Engineers need to revamp the system, which could involve an electric motor on the front axle, a la Acura NSX. GMA says we should still expect to see the car in 2020.

Unless, of course, this is just subterfuge from the Bowtie as it tries to take the last winter NAIAS by storm with a show winner. When the C7 Stingray dropped, remember, thatís all anyone could talk about for the entire press preview week.

I'm afraid I'm now officially disinterested in the ME car. GM have had prototypes running around for over a year now and they discover this now.... Come on! Banghead

Quoting a source:

"If one could only separate the guesses, false information, misinformation from the officially provided GM facts...oh, wait, there hasn't been any GM provided facts re the C8."
or...Ö..

"No announcement, no acknowledgment, no marketing = no delay. Can't delay what isn't announced/acknowledged or marketed."
