Re: Wheeler Dealer TV Show
Ben, thanks for the positive comment on my car.It does look good on film(or should that be video?)
Maybe you're right ,the chap buying the car may well have been an actor or mate of the program makers.....never crossed my mind. But I am a bit naive.
They kept calling the hood a bonnet. If it's an American car it's a HOOD!!
Am I being a tad pedantic?
The film of the Vette they bought appeared to have knackerd shocks.Seemed to wallow, especialy the front, as it drove down the road.Anyone else notice that?
But I thought the program wasn't bad for giving ,albiet fairly basic info about C4's for the potential new Corvette owner, who want's to take the leap into Vette ownership with all it's highs and lows. For most of us I'm sure (or hope) the highs far outweigh the lows.
Managed to see the program courtesy of Chevykevv who kindly sent me a DVD copy.

Steve V8...your 1989 C4 with 315bhp...what mods were on that if you don't mind me asking?
Hi
It was more of a question of what hadn't been fitted.
The guy who had it before me really went to town on it. It had been into Jeals for most of the work and the bills and paperwork that came with the car... He had spent thousands!!
From what I can remeber it had Eldebrock heads, Eldebrock intake manifold, high lift Comp Cams, TPS throttle body, TPS chip (I think.) straight through twin exhaust system (Yes it was loud!!) (I took it to work one day and the office windows were rattling!!!) upgraded fuel system and a whole load of other little tweaks. I put the all the details onto an A4 sheet when I advertised at the Newark show in 05 and it was a full sheet!!
With it being the 6 speed manual it would light up the tyres in virtually any gear, fantastic!!
He had also spent money on refurbing the wheels and other updates so the car was (And still is.) in as new condition. So much so it had appeared in Classic American as a Buying guide for the C4.
I sold it to a guy called John who lives in Grantham and I met him at this years Newark Americana as I took my Camaro to the show. He thinks its great, as I did and he has a couple of mates who have also bought Vettes.

Re: Wheeler Dealer TV Show
Hi all, new here. Just thought I'd make myself known... I am the guy bought the C4 from Wheeler Dealers TV show from ebay. There's A LOT you don't know about the car that wasn't shown on the telly (or so I can gather). Unfortunately I didn't even see the programme
I HAVE got receipts for the work that was done by the production company, much of which wasn't shown on the telly, and all the (true) prices paid. Anyone interested? Also I'm looking to buy stuff to do up the old gal. So far I'm buying from Ecklers.com in America (online), is there anywhere a bit more local (in the UK) where I can pick up kit?

Jason! So the story continues! Welcome to the website.
Are you really the chap who dealt with Mike Brewer at the end of the show? If you paid the amount they said on the programme then you still got a cheap C4 so if there are other problems with the car then don't be too despondent.
What else have you discovered since buying the car?
For parts in the US try www.madvet.com (Mid America) as well as Ecklers. Their prices are similar to Ecklers' and I've always found the MidAmerica customer service to be excellent.
In the UK you've got Dart or Claremont (Kent), Corvette Kingdom (Norfolk), or for C4s there's Eurovettes, who have a good reputation. The boss of Eurovettes, Keith Beschi, is the CCCUK's technical advisor and specialises in C4s. Many routine mechanical bits are available from normal motor factors though. Worth a try.

Re: Wheeler Dealer TV Show
Jason,I'm the owner of "the other car", the one in good condition in the program. As you bought a Crossfire (same as mine) if you need any info on that model send me a private message and perhaps I can help with some pointers. Owned my car for around 9 years now and it's been excellent . No major problems at all. Just stuff you would expect to fail through age. There doesn't appear to be an "achilles heel" with the Crossfire, contary to popular belief.I think the reason why the '84 is slightly maligned is being the only C4 with the crossfire injection system (bought over from the last C3, the '82 model. (there wasn't an '83 Corvette)
The Crossfire being the first C4 in some ways is a bit of a landmark in my view.Interestingly, recently the spare suppliers are starting to list more parts peculiar to the '84. As this model gets older they do start to need looking after more and the suppliers are responding, which is a good thing for Crossfire owners.
Tom Newman who services my Vette, drives loads of Corvettes in his work and has commented that mine is as quick or faster, and drives better than some later C4's he services. A friend has an '86 and we've driven each others cars. Other than slight difference in power at certain revs, the performance of the cars are pretty well identical.
Number one investment: Get a GM workshop manual for your car....worth it's weight in gold.Mid America or Eklers should stock them.
Hope your new car gives you as much enjoyment as mine gives me.

Re: Wheeler Dealer TV Show
Ahhh, that was scam number one. I wasn't on telly. I bought the car from the production company through eBay. I don't know what the price was on the telly co I didn't see the programme (I'd be VERY grateful if anyone has it on DVD or VHS). I know what I paid (£2550) and I'm happy with what I got. In the process of sorting a few minor faults, and a full respray is on the cards for the near future.
Feel free to ask about the car. I'm not a total novice on muscle cars. Had a 1990 Trans Am a few years ago, and I know the 1983 crossfire C4 was built to the 1984 spec, hence no model year for 1983. Though I think mine was one of the 70 or so actually built in 1983.
Anyway, sun is out at the moment and the roof is off, so out for another quick blat round these Welsh roads! Thanks for the comments and advice so far, and I may become a bit of a regular on here!

In that case you *really* got a bargain! The programme makers claimed to have paid £2050 and then spent almost £1k adding an exhaust and fixing the instruments and tarting it up. At the end of the programme they 'sold' the car to a mate/actor who agreed to pay £3700. Looked like it had all worked out OK. If they actually sold it for £2550 then they probably lost money on it. (Maybe their stated costs weren't accurate.)
I had a copy of the programme on DVD but I lent them to a mate and told him I didn't want them back. I'll see if I can get hold of them if nobody else offers.
