NATIONALS UPDATE - Saturday talks are back!

Hello all!

Just some things of note regarding the Corvette Nationals this year, please take a moment to read them. We really hope to see you there, either with or without your car!

SATURDAY TALKS ARE BACK!

Yes, you read correctly, we have three great speakers lined up for you, in the form of our very own Keith Beschi, who will be talking about the resurrection of his prototype ZR1, Dave Gledhill on fast jets, writing and his Corvette experiences, and we also have a special guest in Karl Ludwigsen. Karl has written the definitive volume of Corvette history, having access to GM insiders we can only dream of, he joins to talk through his latest findings as he updates the so far never ending Corvette story.

This programme of talks will happen between 1pm and 4pm on the Saturday ONLY. We hope you will join us in supporting these great people who are giving their time to visit us by attending.

SATURDAY NIGHT EVENT

A wonderful response to this! We sold out our original allocation of 80 spaces for the hog roast and music evening on the show field a couple of weeks ago, however the good news is we are able to stretch this, but would ask people make contact very shortly, we will be closing the list on Wednesday the 17th June as the caterer needs to finalise the order for, well, the hog. A reminder a bar will be available on the night also, and of course I've written a quiz for you to have a go at!

Payments - we understand some have struggled with cheques for payment of the tickets, we will shortly release an alternative method, so if people could keep an eye out that would be much appreciated.

BBMF SPITFIRE

Bigger than a big block or 4, it is with great joy I am able to confirm (weather and operations permitting) that we will be expecting a flyby by the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight's Spitfire, this will be at around 3pm on the SUNDAY.

On that note, if you are attending as a club member, please make sure your car has the 2016 window sticker or you have your current membership card with you to take advantage of the reduced member rate for entry. Should be an individual lucky enough to win a prize, if it's a Corvette you are in it will need to be displaying it's current window sticker to be eligible.

Great news. Would love to make the Saturday talks, but i suspect i will only be able to attend Sunday.

Sorry to be a bit of a plane spotter, but any idea which of the five airworthy BBMF Spits will be doing the flyby:

I think we maybe had one of the Mk PRXIX some years ago now. These were the pinnacle of piston engine aircraft development, and still hold the time-to-altitude record for a piston engined aircaft.

They are rather nice looking in their photo reconnaissance blue, and i seem to remember they gave the show field a good low attitude buzz at some pace! Really looking forward to this.

Cannot help with which Mk PRX1X the BBMF may use on the day. But as a note of interest ( anarak moment alert )
When I was a kid ( long, long ago !! ) This very Spitfire PS915 PRX1X stood outside RAF West Malling in Kent a Battle of Britain airfield, as a gate guardian and did so for almost 30 years in total sharing the same duties during that time with RAF Leuchars and RAF Brawdy.
Me and my brother cycled up to the gates from the village on many occasions just to see that Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane which shared the gate. My father told us that it had reached the end of it's useful airframe life and would slowly deteriorate in weather and then be scrapped.
How I wish he could see her now, restored within the BBMF in 1987 by British Aerospace Warburton Division. and fitted with an ex Shackleton Griffon engine.
That huge five bladed prop and yes she is one of the fastest and I think one of the last to enter service in the RAF with 541 Sqn RAF Benson in June 1945.

Great story, thanks for sharing.

Anyone interested in aircraft and seeing some American muscle (aircraft that is), the US Air Force are doing exercises at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire at the mo. This means B-52s, B-2's and yesterday a couple of U-2s came in. We just need the B-1 and for them to resurrect an SR-71 and we have a pretty epic complement of Strategic Air Command types on UK soil just now!

Anyone else miss the Mildenhall Air Fete?

I was there in 2000 in dreadful weather getting close to the F-117 and photys of the B2, well guarded on the other side of the tarmac.

The yanks used to fly in their own grub and beer, ..everything was a £1. I loved the enthusiasm, informality, and invites to scope the insides of the large aircraft cockpits (Globemaster/Shirtlifter can't remember which..). Been to many a good airshow, but that one beat them all.

Even had a good chat with the Nighthawk pilot until someone asked him if he was the guy who bombed the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade by mistake!
